Our Why
Research tells us:
-
In Australia, 1 in 5 mothers and 1 in 10 fathers experience perinatal anxiety or depression, costing the nation $877 million annually (PwC & Gidget Foundation Australia, 2019).
-
Around 1 in 7 children aged 4–17 experience a mental-health condition each year, highlighting the need for consistent, nurturing support beyond school (AIHW, 2022).
-
1 in 4 older Australians report feeling lonely, even though most wish to remain living independently at home (AIHW, 2023).
-
A new report, jointly produced by the Australian Human Rights Commission and the Australian Human Resources Institute, found almost one quarter of HR professionals now classify workers aged 51 to 55 as "older". A 2021 AHRC study found 90% of Australians see it as a societal issue, with 63% reporting personal experiences of age discrimination. The 2025 report confirms this persists in workplaces, with one in five HR professionals admitting their recruitment practices disadvantage older workers.
At Steady Nest, we’re committed to helping change these statistics — one family at a time.
This diagram shows the change we’re working toward, and what we’ll keep track of as we grow: how many families and children we support, feedback that wellbeing is improving and loneliness is easing, and how we’re creating meaningful roles for experienced caregivers (many aged 50+).
