Natalie Baker
Mum & Gran * L&D Consultant
Natalie is a mother, grandmother, and Perinatal Wellbeing Consultant with a Master’s in Applied Practice and over 30 years’ experience supporting children and families across education, business and community settings. She draws on her experience to help bridge the gap between clinical care and the “village” support families need.
She has designed and delivered programs for schools, tertiary institutions, and corporate clients, and has worked in alternative education, home-based care, high schools, and foundation studies. She’s known for her warm, inclusive teaching style and her ability to link learning with real-life wellbeing.
Her Master’s research explored how constant change impacts wellbeing, deepening her understanding of how transition and instability affect individuals and families. While lecturing in Human Development in New Zealand, she taught a paper that highlighted how early relationships and environments shape a child’s growth and wellbeing.
Since relocating to Brisbane, Natalie has continued to focus on family wellbeing and early intervention. Her work in the Parent Aide Unit at Mater Mothers’ Hospital, alongside her experience as a parent and grandmother, has made her acutely aware of the gap between clinical care and the supportive “village” families need.
As the founder of Steady Nest, Natalie is committed to providing practical, evidence-informed care for families during vulnerable seasons. She is passionate about helping parents build confidence, connection, and calm so that both children and caregivers can thrive.
Why We Care
Research tells us:
-
In Australia, 1 in 5 mothers and 1 in 10 fathers experience perinatal anxiety or depression, costing the nation $877 million annually (PwC & Gidget Foundation Australia, 2019).
-
Around 1 in 7 children aged 4–17 experience a mental-health condition each year, highlighting the need for consistent, nurturing support beyond school (AIHW, 2022).
-
1 in 4 older Australians report feeling lonely, even though most wish to remain living independently at home (AIHW, 2023).
At Steady Nest, we’re committed to helping change these statistics — one family at a time. It takes a village to raise a child, and we hold that supportive space, like a village would.
