Sue Collett

Early Childhood Leadership & Mentoring

Sue brings a wealth of experience as a seasoned educator, tutor and sector leader who has shaped how generations of practitioners are trained, coached and mentored. Her particular strength lies in developing others: building the confidence and competence of educators, nannies and home-based providers rather than simply directing them.

Sue has tutored Early Childhood Education and Infant Care Practices in the tertiary sector and holds a leadership role in the home-based early childhood sector, coaching educators and quality-assuring their practice while building strong partnerships with the families they support. Alongside this, she's facilitated professional development workshops for teachers, educators and nannies across the industry, sharing current best practice and championing excellence in early learning environments.

Supporting parents has always sat at the centre of Sue's work. She has volunteered as a Family Care Worker, offering encouragement and practical guidance to families, and is trained to deliver parenting programmes through The Parenting Place. Her community leadership runs just as deep, having served on a school Board of Trustees and chaired a Parent Teacher Association.

Sue's volunteering has consistently centred on children and families beyond the classroom too. She has coordinated a children's ministry programme for under-fives, trained and mentored the youth helpers who supported it, and taken on a dedicated family care role — offering encouragement, a listening ear, and practical support to parents navigating challenges. Across every setting, her instinct has been the same: strengthen the people around the child, not just the child.

Based in Auckland, New Zealand, Sue joins the board to oversee Steady Nest's early childhood programs — bringing a rare combination of tertiary teaching depth, home-based sector leadership and hands-on parent support to how the organisation trains, coaches and supports its people.
